Lone Star’s Imperial is based on Chrysler’s 1963 hard top model. At 1:73 it is to a smaller scale than the other Impy cars so better suits the standard small size Impy wheels. The Impy version came in at least 4 different colours (including yellow – not shown) whereas the later Flyers issue is usually only found in different shades of blue. A police version of the Imperial was added to the range as No.16 plus a rare Politie issue for the Dutch market. Rarer still is the Imperial finished in a red fire chief livery as No.32 (usually the Ford Corsair).
The Imperial was part of the rare ‘Silver Flyers’ range and is probably the easiest model to find. When the Flyers were revamped in 1975 the Imperial had its bonnet cast shut but gained a roof rack complete with a plastic boat. A final version was issued in green and features on the trade boxes for the later ‘Impy Super Models’ range. This is particularly rare and I’ve only ever come across a play-worn example.
