Lone Star’s No.18 Ford Corsair was the last of the ‘starting eight’ Impy models available at launch in 1966 joining Nos. 10,11,12,14,15,16 and 17. Fords were a popular choice for Lone Star with the Corsair joining the Zodiac in the Impy line-up. The following year a German Ford Taunus (No.27) and Transit breakdown lorry (No.31) were added to the range. Later a Ford Mustang would join the other Ford cars in the Flyers range.
Tantalisingly Ford Thunderbird, Ford GT40 and Ford Capri models were also proposed and even made it into Lone Star’s model listings and trade catalogues but sadly no further. More information on these ‘might-have-beens’ can be found under the ‘Ghosts’ section on this website.
It appears the Impy Corsair was only issued in one colour over its 3 years of production. Fortunately, there’s a lot more colour variations for the Flyers version.
The Corsair was also used as the basis for a Fire Chief car (No32). Both Corsair models appeared in the Flyers range until its demise in 1976.
