NO.25 TRACTOR
Impy Version (1967-1972) / Commercials Version (1972-75+)
The first of three items of plant to join the Impy range was a tractor shovel based on an International Harvester Payloader. This is quite a neat model with operating shovel and steering rear wheels. ‘Tractor’ was cast on either side of the model, where ‘Payloader’ badges were on the real thing. This must have been deemed sufficient as the model description as no further details were cast on the baseplate. The tractor later became part of the ‘Commercials’ range although it did not receive hi-speed wheels which were probably thought inappropriate for such a model. With no change to the wheels the ‘Commercials’ version remained identical to the previous Impy version. Therefore all variants are shown together below.
The tractor was part of the rare ‘Silver Commercials’ range produced primarily for the Japanese market. It also featured in a number of gift sets and survived, after the rest of the ‘Commericals’ range was phased out, in a set with four of the generic Impy Super Models trucks (see below).
