1970 saw the arrival of Lone Star's Flyers Ford Mustang. The was one Lone Star got right resulting in an attractive and well proportioned model. Matchbox, Dinky and Corgi all already had Mk.1 Mustangs in their ranges but Lone Star's version was based on Ford's revamped 1967 model which was larger and sleeker. Lone Star's model is most often found in a dark metallic brown-bronze shade. An attractive metallic green version also exists but seems to be a late issue used primarily in the Impy Majors ‘Breakdown Set’ No.186.
It appears the model was released ahead of its Flyers box packaging being ready. Consequently, early examples can be found in ‘Commercials’ window boxes.
The Mustang casting went on to feature in the low-cost Impy Super Models range as No.79 finished in dark blue.
