The attractive Maserati (along with the Lotus Europa) were the first completely new models to be added to the Flyers range where they joined the existing 16 cars converted from the Impy models. The Lotus was numbered No.36 but bizarrely Lone Star numbered the Mistral No.9 (The Impy range had started at No.10). The sporadic numbering continued with the next 3 new Flyers cars entering the range as Nos 38, 13 and 7!
It's believed the Maserati first appeared in early 1970 and therefore only had the second type ‘spoked’ Flyers wheels. However, the 1970 Japanese Lone Star catalogue (presumably prepared in late 1969) shows the model with the first type ‘disc’ Flyers wheels. It’s therefore possible the model was actually released late in 1969.
The red version is very common whilst the later white issue is much harder to find. The Maserati also appeared in Lone Star’s ‘Silver Flyers’ range produced primarily for the Japanese market.
Maserati ended production of the Mistral in 1970, just as Lone Star introduced its version.
